All payroll and tax calculations are performed entirely locally on your device. The exact numbers you input (such as your hourly wage, annual salary, or timesheet hours) are not transmitted to us and we do not store them — unless you create an account and choose to save a calculation, in which case that saved calculation is stored securely so you can access it across your devices.

To understand how the calculator is used and to publish aggregate research (for example, "which income ranges Canadians calculate most, by province"), we record anonymous usage statistics: the calculator mode, the province, a broad income range (a bracket such as "$50k–$70k" — never your exact amount), the interface language, your device type (phone, tablet, or computer — never the full browser signature), the industry you optionally select for wage comparison, which page of our own site you were on before you calculated (the path only — never an address from another website, and never anything after the “?” in a link), the reason you optionally tell us you are calculating (for example “new job offer”), your typical work pattern when you use the shift or timesheet calculators (usual start and end hour, days worked per week, average shift length, and unpaid break length — never the specific calendar dates you worked), broad ranges for optional entries you make (such as whether you contribute to an RRSP and roughly what share of your pay, whether you receive a shift premium or overtime, and declared tips as a share of pay — always as ranges, never exact amounts), whether you were signed in (a yes/no flag — never which account), and, if you reopen a calculation you saved earlier and change the numbers, the direction and rough size of that change and how long ago the original was saved (for example “up 5–10%, three months later” — never the amounts themselves, and never linked to your account), and your approximate location (country, region, and city only, derived from your connection — your IP address itself is never stored). Statistics from the same visit are grouped by a random temporary identifier that is discarded when you leave and is never used to track you across visits or sites. These events contain no names, no account identifiers, no IP addresses, and no device fingerprints, and cannot be linked back to you. We also use privacy-friendly page analytics (Vercel Analytics) to count page views. We do not use advertising trackers and do not monitor your behavior across other apps or websites.

The CanPay Insights app does not require any special permissions (such as camera, contacts, or location access) to function.
