How gross becomes net
Net pay = gross pay − federal income tax − provincial income tax − CPP (QPP in Quebec) − EI (plus QPIP in Quebec). Optional deductions such as a group RRSP or union dues come off too, and lower the tax on what is left.
The same $80,000 in three provinces
On $80,000 in 2026, net pay is about $61,157 in British Columbia, $60,698 in Alberta and $60,303 in Ontario. Federal tax, CPP and EI are the same in all three; the provincial tax is what changes.
